It was demolished in the 1970s to make way for a modern retail complex. A photo of the Ruperstwood Hotel, on the corner of Evans Street and Brook Street, with a group of people and a horse and carriage outside it. The group is comprised of 5 men, 1 youth, 5 girls and a woman in the carriage. There is a sign on the fence stating " Horses and buggies always for hire. Good stabling" and on the building "Superior Wines and Spirits"; "Rupertswood Hotel" and "G. Millett. Licensed Victualler"The photo is mounted on a light brown cardboard matt, which is extremely brittle. The lower LH corner is cracked. The street parade where many community organisations participated was popular with the townspeople. The Rupertswood Hotel is visible behind the bystanders and it was demolished in the latter half of the 1970s.The Sunbury Festival was an important community event in Sunbury each year as many community groups participated in it with displays. Book, Saltwater River History Trails
This book which was printed in 1984 gives not only the geology of the area but also the history of the various areas that Jacksons Creek and the Saltwater River now known as the Maribyrnong River pass through. There are many drawings and photos accompanying the information relating to the various areas and buildings researched in this book. From Sunbury to Williamstown some of the names and places mentioned include John Aitken, George Evans, William J.T. Clarke, Ben Eadie, Rupertswood, Goonawarra Vineyard, Organ Pipes, Glenara, Walter Clark, Keilor, Overnewton, Avondale Heights, Solomons ford, Riverview Tea Gardens, Anglers Hotel, Aberfeldie Park, Humes Pipe Works, Powder Magazine, Maribyrnong, Munitions factories, Footscray Park, Flemington, Footscray, Yarraville, Newport, Williamstown, Commonwealth reserve, the blue stone lighthouse. A small cream/olive green colour covered printed book of 74 pages. The front cover shows part of a pen and wash drawing of a homestead. It has the name of the book and the author Hugh Anderson printed at the top of the cover and Sunbury to the Sea printed at the bottom. A.J.Gregor, a Sunbury resident, had written the message on the back of the card to his cousin Harriet on the 11th April 1912 informing her of his state of health and some of the town's activities. Those mentioned were his need to travel to the hospital in Melbourne fot medical treatment, billiard contests at the local hotel, theatre shows in the town as well as weather details.The message on the reverse side of the card gives an insight into the day to day happenings in Sunbury in 1912.A sepia post card with four photographs of sites in Sunbury, namely the Mill Fall, Rupertswood mansion, Dr. Faulkner's residence and the race track at Kismet.
